It Hurts (but that’s actually a good thing)

One of the things that I really love about keeping up this website is that I don’t have to have a hundred conversations about what’s going on with me or send a hundred emails out. I can just point people to this site to know what’s going on. That’s what I’m doing right now.

Long story short, we spent almost SEVEN hours seeing Doctors on Tuesday because I was having a good amount of pain in my ear because of what I thought was an ear infection or worse, some sort of infection related to my recent facial surgery. The pain was actually making my speech slur significantly. After meeting with my general doctor, then my surgeon who did my facial surgery, and then an ENT, they determined that I am having “referred pain”. What this means is that I’m having pain that I felt like was in my ear or cheek when it was really from me biting my tongue really hard a few days ago (since the right side of my tongue, like my face, is paralyzed, it sometimes gets bitten, and this time, I literally bit a sizable chunk out of it). What’s actually pretty painful is really a huge praise in that the bite and subsequent doctor examinations showed that the 1st facial surgery I had a year and a half ago included a procedure called the 7/12 Split, which is really kicking in now, hence the feeling/pain in my tongue and mouth! I am regaining feeling in part of my mouth. This is a really good thing. So praise God for the pain!

Because there are some shared nerves between the ear and the back of the tongue, there can be confusion about where pain really is, particularly when there is the total lack of sensation in that area. Anyway, I’m in pretty bad pain, but I’m so grateful for it!

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away (and then sometimes gives it back again :) ). Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Point of Gratitude: PAIN! Feeling anything is better than feeling nothing at all.
